Jazz Re:Freshed

Visit London’s Mau Mau bar any given Thursday night, and you’ll experience the Jazz Re:Freshed movement. Jazz Re:Freshed is a club night, and it’s an album, but more importantly it’s a culture of music that embraces Jazz in all its diverse forms. All styles are covered from Future Soul to Fusion, from Bruk to Be Bop, from Hip Hop to Afrobeat. This is the New Jazz, hence the name. So when you experience the movement, it’s important to “forget what you think you know about Jazz music.”

The music of Jazz Re:Freshed, presented by Adam “Rock” Moses and Justin “TopRock” Mckenzie, is easy to love, but don’t mistake it for easy listening. This is not the sound of the so-called “contemporary” Jazz you might hear on mainstream radio. It’s young, fresh, and new, and yet it maintains its ties to the music born out of oppression and revolution. In that sense, Jazz Re:Freshed is pure Jazz, true to the form.

If you can’t make it to London, or even if you can, we highly recommend Jazz Re:Freshed Vol. 1, a two-CD set featuring music from artists such as Kaidi Tatham, Azymuth, and Mark de Clive-Lowe’s Freesoul Sessions. Purchase the album here.
