We previously hinted at Mark’s move to the U.S. Now we’re giving you the details. In a recent interview Mark explained the transition, and talked about his plans for the coming year:

“I’ve wanted to go to the States for a long time – it was always my destination of choice. It’s funny how London was an unexpected detour and I was there for a decade. Not only that, but it formed everything about who I am now as an artist and musician. I went to NY in ‘98 for a few months after Cuba and London and as much as I loved it, I just wanted to get back to London and get on with some more music with my creative family there! American and UK culture and music specifically have both been a big part of my growing up – the UK has come through with some incredible fusions of styles to create truly unique and complete new styles, and the US has always had stand-out artists who completely redefine the game – from Ellington to Miles, D’angelo to J Dilla and beyond. After 10 years in London, it feels like it’s time to turn the page to the next chapter. I always remember what Bjork said when asked by a journalist why she left London when she did. She replied “I left before the good energy turned bad.” That rings true for me too. The last few months have been a great way to end too – I produced an album for a Dutch trumpeter, musical directed a theatre show with grime MCs in the UK, and had some great live shows in the UK and Europe. It’s great to finish on a high note! The next year is looking exciting too – I’m finishing an album for US rapper Replife at the moment, new tracks coming up with Omar and Jody Watley, and at some stage, my own new album. There will be a full length release before that – Melodius Beats vol.2 – showcasing my remixes and collaborations including Ed Motta, Bembe Segue, Omar, Incognito, Lady Alma, çeu and others.”
