Artist Feature: Douyé

Douyé is a singer-songwriter from Nigeria, now based in Los Angeles, who makes Jazz-inspired R&B. She grew up influenced by artists such as Sade and Billie Holliday, and you can hear those inspirations in her songs. Douyé’s voice is smoky and sultry. She sings with a focus on mood and melody, rather than over-the-top dynamics. And her harmonies and choruses are sweet, almost bittersweet, creating a sound that’s beautiful, and yet tinged with pain.
Douyé started singing in church at the age of seven, traveled Europe in her teens, and then moved to the United States to study at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. After graduating, she performed in clubs throughout LA while writing songs and advancing her musicianship. During this time she met Terry Shaddic, with whom she wrote her new album Journey.
Douyé’s new album Journey is out now, and you can hear and purchase the album at her website.
