Marc Mac is bringing back his Nu Era persona for an album of vintage techno colliding with 4hero-style soul, and it’s called The Third Adam. Very much an electronic release, Mac relied on a laptop, vintage drum machines, and analog keyboards for composition and recording. But Nu Era is still Marc Mac so The Third Adam is filled with Future Soul, Funk, and Nu Jazz. The album is out on May 20, but you can pre-order now.
With +FE Music: The Reworks, the Foreign Exchange family has released an album of beautifully progressive soul music. The release features remixes of past tracks – actually the word “remix” doesn’t quite capture the record’s adventurous sounds. These songs truly are reworks, most of them jumping into entirely different sub-genres from their original versions. And, while many remix albums are usually bonus projects or holdovers to satiate fans while they wait for the next real album, The Reworks stands on its own as a composition. In fact, it shines.
“So What If It Is” is The Foreign Exchange’s new single from their +FE Music: The Reworks remix compilation. The 2-disc set features remixes by Nicolay, Zo! 4hero, ?uestlove, and James Poyser. The release precedes +FE Music’s upcoming releases: ManMade by Zo! and The Foreign Exchange’s next long player, Love In Flying Colors.
Marc Mac and Erik Rico have come together to create Direct Soul, an EP that fuses Afro-Latin rhythms with Tech-Soul stylings, and the music is beautiful. The record features four highly-danceable, and yet organically soulful, songs.
Erik Rico says, “For me there’s no one set way that I begin the creative process, which is why technology is so important; it allows me to capture things on the fly like a moment’s inspiration.”
Appropriate comments since the duo recorded Direct Soul in one afternoon session in Marc Mac’s studio. The comments are also apt because the album relies on tight, technical production without sacrificing deep sounds and inspired melodies.
But, as tempted as we are to analyze the record’s subgenres and production techniques, that’s not what this EP is about. Direct Soul is about Erik Rico and Marc Mac getting together to record some soulful love songs, and you can hear them right here.
Marc Mac has dropped a new addition to his podcast entitled “The Best Way To Start The Day.”
A selection of 4hero music to start your day. I’ve thrown in a few unreleased outakes and a few rare remixes for you, hope you like. Our latest project has just come out this week so please go and check it out at you local store or digital spot
And of course the “latest project” that Marc is referring to is the new album, 4hero presents Extensions, which includes reinterpretations of 4hero songs by artists such as Robert Mitchell 3io and Sonar Kollektiv Orchestra.
