You need a day off – some real leisure time – and Poldoore has the soundtrack for you. The Day Off, the producer’s new album, which is out today on Cold Busted, is driving-with-the-top-down music. The record is mostly instrumental hip hop with chopped up soul samples and warm vibes. “Heard it All Before” though is a vocal track featuring emcee duo The 49ers and singer Bodhilynn, and clearly the single here. If you like head-nodding music, check out The Day Off by Poldoore. Listen below.
13 Crew is a turntablism collective from Poland, and their debut album Scratch Bunker is filled with old school cuts over downtempo and hip hop beats. This record will take you back to the days of Kid Koala or even the Invisibl Skratch Piklz. Twenty three sample-heavy tracks are all scratched up on the release, and you can hear a preview below.
The song “Think of You” by ClassicBeatz, and featuring Sixteenstone, comes from his recent album called Rumors of Royalty. Driven by a classic sounding break (probably appropriate given the producer’s name), bittersweet piano melodies, and a singular vocal line, “Think of You” is sentimental soul. The video reflects that feeling with an intimate look at scrap books and home movies. This one may have you reminiscing. Check it out below.
Inf of Utrecht, Netherlands has a thing for 70s crime movie scores, and that sound drives his latest release on Beats Broke called Music for Crime Scenes. The producer recorded the album with analog synths, and featured a number of guest musicians so no samples were necessary. But Music for Crime Scenes is instrumental hip hop, and the beats and breaks are solid. They provide the backdrop to melodies, performed by horns or vibraphone or synth, that are dark and foreboding with hints of kitsch. Listen to Music for Crime Scenes by Inf below. (more…)
DJ Soulist and Fulgeance, also known as Souleance, have a new EP on the way called Brotha. The duo mixes bass heavy hip hop beats with flipped samples and electro-inspired synths on the six-song record. The EP, available digitally and on vinyl, follows the group’s La Beat Tape release, which came out earlier this year. Listen to a preview of Brotha by Souleance below.
