Moon Baker’s album ABC of Romance came out a couple years ago, but if you lived in the U.S. you might have missed it since the release was limited to The Netherlands, Germany and Japan (Note from Zane: I paid the import price just to get this CD, and it was worth it). The album featured the Dutch soul singer with production by Nicolay, and it was really, really good. Today, Nicolay is giving away two songs from the album: “Stay,” and the remix of the title track “ABC of Romance,” which features Kay.
In July of 2006, I was approached by people representing world renowned jazz keyboardist Bob James. They were working on putting together a project, to be called ‘Sampling Bob James: The Nautilus Project’, on which several DJ’s and producers would present their take on one of the most sampled tracks in hip-hop history, ‘Nautilus’, from Bob James’ 1974 album ‘One’. To my delight, I was invited to be one of the contributors, but instead of sampling the original, I chose to ‘cover’ it and re-create the track from scratch.
The Foreign Exchange’s Phonte and Nicolay, along with Darien Brockington and Yahzarah were in Philadelphia last Tuesday shooting a soon-to-be-released video for their current single, “Take Off The Blues.” Photographer Mike Chin was on set to document what went on in front of the camera as well as behind the scenes. More here.
In the following interview, Zane speaks with Phonte and Nicolay about their new Foreign Exchange album, called Leave It All Behind.
