Mark de Clive-Lowe is giving away a massive download for the next 24 hours. The “big bundle” includes the Six Degrees, Tide’s Arising, The Politik, and Journey 2 the Light albums as well as a whole lot of rarities, remixes, b-sides, and even videos.
Ross McHenry composes modern Jazz music, and sets it to the just-behind-the-beat, post-Dilla rhythms of the Los Angeles beat scene. And on Distant Oceans McHenry he does it with an all-star collective, which he calls his Future Ensemble.
The ensemble features one of the most exciting and in demand producers and keyboardists in the world today, Mark de Clive-Lowe, the rhythmic foundation of renowned NZ ensemble Electric Wire Hustle, Myele Manzanza, multi-instrumentalist and composer Adam Page and leading Australian instrumentalists Dylan Marshall, Jon Hunt and Luca Spiler.
While Distant Oceans is his debut solo album, Ross McHenry is not a newcomer. The ARIA nominated composer, producer, and bass player performed worldwide with the Shaolin Afronaughts, and took part in the 2010 Red Bull Music Academy. But Distant Oceans may be McHenry’s most exciting project yet as he brings together his Future Ensemble, and takes Nu Jazz into new territory.
Imagine John Coltrane meeting the Brainfeeder collective and you’re somewhere close to the sound of Distant Oceans.

Tommaso Cappellato and Astral Travel will expand your consciousness with this album of cosmic, spiritual jazz called Cosm’ethic. The record is a tribute to Harry Whitaker, under whom Cappellato studied while in New York. Mark de Clive-Lowe introduced the Italian drummer’s music to Jazz Re:freshed, and the label was amazed. I think you will be too. Check out Cosm’ethic by Tommaso Cappellato and Astral Travel (below), out now on Jazz Re:freshed.
Jaymz Nylon and Still Phil have collaborated as Borough of Kings on a new track called “We Kissed on the A-Train,” a chilled deep house song inspired by New York love stories. Michel Navedo features on the trumpet.
