Tony Momrelle, whom you know from his work with Incognito and Reel People, has a brand new and entirely solo EP on the way called Fly. The seven song release is all Momrelle – pure Soul and Jazz Funk music – but house heads can also look forward to a deep remix from Reel People. Check out the promo video below.
Last spring Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings announced a new album, but discovered soon after that Jones was diagnosed with cancer, and so put everything on hold. But good news: Jones is recovering, and the group has returned to form. “It brings great joy and relief to announce that after a successful operation, ongoing treatment, and the continued support and love of friends, family, and fans, Sharon Jones is back.”
The new album, Give the People What They Want, is set for release on January 14. And Jones and the Dap-Kings will perform for the first time in almost a year on February 6 at the Beacon Theater in New York City. Below you can see the animated video for the group’s new single called “Retreat!”
Likely to be the jazz funk record of the year, if not simply record of the year, Morning Light is an album of jazzy soul with hints of disco funk by producer and composer Robert Strauss and the Personal Life collective. Filled with smart and yet catchy and breezy melodies, Morning Light features the timeless vocals of Stuart Lisbie, and expert performances by members of Amy Winehouse’s touring band.
Andy Compton (The Rurals) and Ladybird (Soldiers Of Twilight, Llorca) have teamed up as L.A.M.P. to drop some easy soul music with jazz funk influences, and the new album is called Shades of Green. Listen below…
“Enough Now” by Harleighblu was originally featured on a 12″ compilation released by Tru Thoughts Records specifically for Record Story Day 2013. The song is also the lead single and video from Harleighblu’s forthcoming album Forget Me Not, which is due out in the fall. Harleighblu made the video in her local record store, the Nottingham Exchange.
